Psy's "Gentleman" Release + Achievements

After the Gangnam Style's Horse Dancing hype, here comes another song that will shake the world. Another hit song from Psy! "I'm a mother father gentleman!" :)

Here's the summary of Psy's Gentleman release starting from rumors of his comeback, audio preview, music video to its achievements. Yes, the new song has received various achievements already upon its release! Daebak!

Many have wondered if PSY would just be a “one hit wonder.”

On March 17, PSY arrived in Malaysia for his solo concert while fine-tuning details for his newest solo track. On that day, PSY told news reporters at the airport that he planned to release his new song next month and hinted that it will be similar to the style of “Gangnam Style” but carry a different feel altogether.

PSY plans to hold his solo concert “Happening” on April 13 in the Seoul World Cup Stadium, the first he’s put on ever since the “Gangnam Syndrome” took hold over the globe. Korean fans will be happy to know that the newest single will be available to them one day in advance on before it is released worldwide.

On March 18, PSY gave his me2day account the following update: “Among the two tracks I have been considering for release, what was formerly known as ‘Assarabeeya!’ will be changed in theme and lyrics. The other track might be released as a separate single later on. Once everything is settled, I will be sure to drop a teaser or spoiler of some sort!”

The reason for this change is because “Assarabeeya” is a Korean slang term used to express excitement. The problem is that the romanization “Assarabeeya” looks like a combination of two words. It is probably safe to assume that while the song may be about the first word, it will definitely have nothing to do with the second. However, Korean and English speaking Netizens were quick to find and point out the potential misinterpretation. Looks like PSY caught wind of the potential controversy and decided to safely change the song.

News on April 11: Psy's "Gentleman" audio preview is out! Psy‘s new single “Gentleman” is out in some countries! The song will be released on April 12th across 119 nations.

This comes as a change since the original plan was for Psy to begin his comeback with the release on Korean music sites first on the 12th before revealing it to the rest of the world afterwards on the 13th.

However, due to questions flooding in from overseas fans and music reps, the agency has decided to reveal it through iTunes in 119 countries at the same time as the domestic release on the 12th.
The song isn’t the only thing you can look forward to since the MV is also getting a lot of hype with the casting of ‘Infinity Challenge‘ members and Brown Eyed Girls‘ Ga In.

News on April 13: Psy’s ‘HAPPENING‘ concert was held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Psy performed his new single “Gentleman” for the first time and unveiled the music video for the song feat. Ga In and the ‘Infinity Challenge‘ team at the concert.

Psy's "Gentleman" MV Released! After performing the song live for the first time at his ‘HAPPENING‘ concert, Psy has released the music video for his latest song “Gentleman”! The trademark dance for the new song is the butt dance from Brown Eyed Girls' "Abracadabra".

Why Psy bought the rights for the dance:

PSY’s “Gentleman” is notable because it features Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga In. Also the main dance for the song is the “arrogant dance” from Brown Eyed Girls’ “Abracadabra.” The interesting fact is that PSY actually paid copyright fees to the creators of the dance “Yama & the Hot Chicks.” PSY’s interpretation of the dance is a legitimate and official remake!

This is probably part of PSY’s master plan of introducing the world to Korean content (such as music and dances). During his “Happening” concert on April 13, PSY told the audience “I plan on remaking not only the dances in South Korea but also the songs.”

He had also stated, “There aren’t that many music industries that have so many ‘dance points’ like our country. My horse dance was just one dance with a ‘point’ and I will continue to interpret the different ‘dance points’ in K-Pop and introduce them overseas. I wish that the original owners of those dances will get the spotlight overseas. I would also like to interpret our songs and show it to the world.”

Psy’s “Gentleman” certified All-Kill + 6.9 Million Youtube views in 13 hours

Psy‘s “Gentleman is already on the road to glory with ~6.9 Million Youtube views in just 13 hours and a certified All-Kill.

Psy joins SISTAR19 and Leessang in achieving the Instiz Chart All-Kill recognition for 2013. An Instiz certified all-kill (“AK”) occurs when an individual song sweeps all of South Korea’s major music charts simultaneously placing first on both the real-time and daily charts.

Having thoroughly and completely owned the online music charts in Korea since its release, this All-Kill was almost inevitable.

That’s not all, the music video has racked up over 6.9 Million Youtube views in the past 13 hours, which is just simply astounding.

Psy now holds the record for most Youtube views in a single day for a K-pop singer. Second place goes to Girls’ Generation’s “I Got a Boy” which raked in 3.5 Million views on the day of its release.

However, he will have to gather another 1.1+ million views in the next 12 hours to beat current record holder, Justin Bieber, whose music video for “Boyfriend“ received 8 Million views on the day of its release. Given the massive rate of views on his video, we don’t think that will be too difficult.

News on April 14: Psy’s “Gentleman” MV amasses 10.7 Million views breaking Justin Bieber’s record for most Youtube views a single day.

We knew it was a possibility, but are still surprised at just how insanely fast Psy‘s music video for “Gentleman” has racked up the Youtube views.

In lightening speed, or rather, just 16 hours, “Gentleman” has already gained over 10.7 million views and counting. Shortly after reaching this milestone, Psy tweeted:
Psy now holds the record for most Youtube views in a single day, not just by a K-pop singer, but by any person, in the history of Youtube.  Former record holder Justin Bieber will have to settle for second place behind Psy, for the second time (he has the #2 most viewed video on Youtube). The young star’s music video for “Boyfriend“ received 8 Million views on the day of its release, a seemingly unbeatable record.

Psy's “Gentleman”achieves ‘perfect all-kill’

World star Psy appears to have hit yet another one out of the park with “Gentleman“! The much-anticipated follow-up to “Gangnam Style” solidified its hit status with a certified ‘perfect all-kill’ on the Instiz chart.

A perfect all-kill (“PAK”) happens when an individual song sweeps all of South Korea’s major music charts and places first on the weekly iChart on Instiz.

And as of today, the video has an overwhelming 86.7 million youtube views!
